Moving in Japan
Japan's system requires those moving to Japan to obtain Customs forms on the aircraft or in the baggage claim area at the airport of entry. The flight attendant on the flight usually gives passenger the Customs Declaration Form. The declaration form is filled out and presented to a Japan Customs official at the port of entry in Japan. A Japan Customs official stamps both copies and keep one and provides the copy to the passenger. This copy must be forwarded to the moving companies in order to allow Customs clear the shipment of the passenger's goods. Other documents required include a photocopy of the passport.
Prohibited Items
Clients should avoid shipping any items restricted or prohibited by Japan Customs regulations and/or international agreements. Japan prohibits such items as pornography, narcotics, exotic animal hides, knives, guns, swords, and other types of weapons.
Pets
Regulations regarding pet importation to Japan have changed recently. Regulations have become very stringent and anyone bringing their pet to Japan should consult their veterinarian, as well as the Japanese Embassy in their country.
Used Motor Vehicles
It may not make sense to ship your motor vehicle to Japan as cars and motorbikes are cheap in Japan, especially used models. Motor vehicles are modified to fulfill emission and safety regulations and this modification procedure can be very expensive.
