The climate of Japan is generally humid and temperate and is marked by sharp seasonal variations.
Japan's climate is primarily influenced by its location near the Asian continent and also due to the activity of major ocean currents, like the warm Kuroshio Current and the cold Oyashio Current.
Due to Japan's mountainous island terrain different climatic conditions prevail in different parts of Japan. While Northern Japan has warm summers and long, cold winters with heavy snow, Central Japan has hot, humid summers and short winters, and southwestern Japan has long, hot, humid summers and mild winters.
