Tokyo

Tokyo, the capital of Japan, is one of the most highly urbanized cities of the world. Tokyo is one of the 47 prefectures of Japan.

The City

 - Tokyo is not a single city per se; it consists of 23 administrative wards, 26 cities, and several towns, villages, and islands
 - The Greater Tokyo Area consists of the metropolis of Tokyo and the prefectures of Chiba, Kanagawa and Saitama
 - The Tokyo metropolis is home to the Japanese government and the Emperor of Japan.
 - Tokyo is a prominent center of education and many of Japan's prestigious universities are located there. These include the University of Tokyo, Keio University, Hitotsubashi University, and Waseda University.

Tourist Attractions

 - Japan's Imperial Palace is home to the Emperor of Japan. The palace was completed in 1888 and is one of the prominent tourist destinations in Tokyo.
 - Yasukuni Shrine was built to commemorate those Japanese war dead who sacrificed their lives for their motherland.
 - Edo-Tokyo Museum provides colorful visual displays focusing on Tokyo's rich history, culture, art and architecture
 - Senso-ji, another popular destination in Tokyo, is Tokyo's oldest temple, and was built in 628 A.D
 - Enjoy electronic rides in the hi-tech Tokyo Disneyland, a major attraction for kids in Tokyo.
